“Whats is the look of… It’s got something to do with, uh…
being a man and handlin’ your biz… what’s love got to do with it?
Ask SV, It’s all bullshit… You Know what Love Is!

-J-88 “The Look Of Love”

Over the weekend, Ive gotten the feeling that hiphop has unified and sort of aligned itself after the sudden death of James Yancey aka Jay Dee aka J Dilla, Producer extraordinaire on Friday Feb. 10th 2006. Days after his 32nd birthday and the day of his latest release, Donuts… From reading numerous sites and blogs, The man kept making beats until his last breath. That is true hiphop in its form. He was sick for a very long time and I think he had his own personal reasons not to divulge the severity of his illness. He probably didnt want people to pity him. I have a strong belief that music was his everything and he wanted to delight the world with his lucious, spacy vibes until the very end. He has transcended to the next plateau and left us back on earth with a catalog of music that we will come to find and rediscover time after time. It’s sad that alot of people didnt know who Jay Dee was. I am glad that now, generations of music fans from all walks of life will come to discover what we have been buzzing about since the mid-nineties. Just look at that catalog and read all the titles he worked on, All the artists he collaborated with. Jay Dee was a very blessed man and was very humble. Instead of being in front of the spotlight, He chose to take the high road and let his talent speak for him. I spent a good portion of this weekend, compiling and putting together this “Jay Dee Tribute Mix”. This is only a mear sampling of what he produced. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I am and I hope some of you will listen to these tracks for this time and walk away aware of who Jay Dilla was. I strongly encourage you all to purchase his vinyls, CD’s, Cassettes, DVD’s, MP3’s and keep his legacy alive. Jay Dilla, I thank you for all the incredible music… I can honestly say, Your mid-nineties classics were the soundtrack to my life!

R.I.P. Jay Dee
